Owls hunt at night and their feathers muffle the sound of flight: the leading edge is fringed, which breaks up the swirl of air and makes the approach all but inaudible to a mouse.
The young stay around the nest for weeks after learning to fly, fed by both parents. The other bird of the night is the raven by its candle, and the owl on his own, bolt upright on his branch.
