- A black spider, so it holds the centre against all that pattern.
- Warm stars around the border, against the cool web.
A spider starts with a single thread strung between two points, usually carried across by the wind. It then lays the spokes and works round in a spiral to the centre, coating only some of the threads with glue.
The whole thing takes under an hour, and it starts again the next day.
